It is my honor to welcome you on behalf of The Society of American Magicians – the world’s oldest and most prestigious magic organization.

The links on your left will help you to learn about our Society – its history, its mission, its programs, and its benefits.  You can even get a sample copy of M-U-M Magazine, the monthly publication of the S.A.M., available to our members in both print and electronic formats.

Joining By Mail

To apply for membership in The Society of American Magicians, you can Click HERE to print and mail in an SAM Membership Application. The page can be printed by accessing your browser’s File Menu, then choosing Print.

Membership Categories

There are six categories of membership in the Society of American Magicians, a world-wide organization.

ASSEMBLY MEMBERSHIP: This allows the member to participate in local Assembly functions. Application must be approved by the Assembly and local dues may be required. This membership receives a subscription to the S.A.M. magic magazine M-U-M.
HOUSEHOLD MEMBERSHIP: This membership is available to individuals who live in the same household as a Member in good standing. No magazine is included.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP: This form of membership is available to anyone who is not able to affiliate with an Assembly. Assembly and Associate Members receive a subscription to  M-U-M.
JUNIOR ASSEMBLY MEMBERSHIP: Certain S.A.M. Assemblies allow Junior Members (age 14 thru 17) to affiliate with their Assembly. Please check with your local Assembly.
S.Y.M. YOUNG MEMBERSHIP: This membership is available to youth between the ages of 7 and 17 (inclusive). Young Members can join their local S.Y.M. Assemblies (Society of Young Magicians). This membership also includes a subscription to The Magic SYMbol online magazine.

Membership Classifications and Dues Rates:

    • Assembly, Junior Assembly, or Associate Member
      United States $65.00 annually. Includes a yearly subscription to M-U-M Magazine, mailed to you. Canada / Mexico with printed and mailed M-U-M: $75.00 ($65.00 annual dues plus $10.00 postage surcharge). International (all other countries) with printed and mailed M-U-M: $85.00 ($65.00 annual dues plus $20.00 postage surcharge)
    • Paperless Global Member
      $45.00 annually. All the same benefits of regular membership, and you help the environment by reading your M-U-M Magazine online.  (No M-U-M will be sent to you by mail.)
    • Paperless (Active-Military) receives a $10 discount for any Active Military.  All the same benefits as Paperless Global.
    • Household Member (Resides in same household as a Member)
      $25.00 annually (no M-U-M)
    • S.Y.M. (Society of Young Magicians) Member (Age 7 through 17 inclusive)
      $20.00 annually.
    • Reinstatements
      Just pay your regular annual dues to resume membership!

Local Assembly Dues are set by each Assembly and are paid directly to the Assembly Secretary.

Member’s Oath

All members of The Society of American Magicians must agree to the following Oath:

If accepted, I agree to elevate the art of magic, abide by the constitution, by-laws, code of ethics and rituals of The Society of American Magicians. I will cooperate with the Society in the promotion of its objectives, promote harmony and advance the ethics of the profession.

I will not condone the dissemination of trade secrets and principles related to magicians or magic effects with no effort or expectation by the recipient to obtain or acquire the information. I will not expose the secrets and principles of magic, nor will I support those who do. I will not copy, imitate, manufacture or sell the materials, ideas, principles, trade secrets or presentations of others without consent.

I will treat all my fellow compeers and all magicians with respect, encouraging fellowship, unity and cooperation.

 Digital Only – $45.00: read online and download

 Household – $25.00: resides in same house as a Member and receives no M-U-M

 SYM Membership – $20.00: Includes The Magic Symbol to read online and download
